DIY Tote

Here is a DIY tote i made the other day I knew it was about time i made a new bag just for everyday uses, and this little beauty is what i came up with! And look there's no ruffles!

Here's What I Used:

Striped Fabric for Lining

White fabric for outside

Material for handles (which i got at joanns)

For the outside design i used 4 different shades of felt

I first cut out a leaf shaped pattern from paper and used that as my guide to cut the colored fabric

Next i cut out the size i wanted for my bag out of the lining fabric,I made mine 16"x18" Then i sewed 3 sides (right sides together) down - across the bottom - and then up the other side.

Next i measured 2" down and made my box corners - if you've never done box corners here is a website that could help HERE because I'm sure I'd be less than helpful trying to explain it!

I then cut out the 2 pieces for the outside of the bag (same size as the lining) and played around with what design i wanted on the front of the bag when i found what i liked i pinned each one in place and sewed them down.

Next i placed the other white piece of fabric over the design i just finished sewing down and sewed 3 sides and made my box corners just like i did for the lining piece.

I then cut the length i wanted for my handles and pinned them onto the wrong side of the outside piece of the bag, then placing the lining inside the outside piece of the bag (so that both right sides of the lining and outside were facing each other) i pinned the top and sewed around it leaving a hole to turn in right side out. (also make sure your handle pieces are inside the bag while your sewing around the edge.

Wow i hope that didn't sound to confusing, I'm not the best at explaining how to do things, that's why i usually have a lot of pictures, but your seriously just sewing a basic tote!

Once you turn it right sides out, iron it and then sew a top stitch all the way around the top to close the opening you used to turn it right side out. Ok I'm going to stop talking/writing now...and just let you enjoy the pictures!

Ruffles Part 2

So are you tired of my ruffle skirts yet? I'm sure not....not yet at least. This is really similar to a skirt i've made before.

So you may remember these ruffles i showed you from a couple weeks ago i cut off two layers of ruffles and........

Well what did i do with the remaining ruffles? take a wild guess! yep i made ruffle skirt another one. First i sewed a basting stitch at the very top of these ruffles

Cut the elastic to my daughters waist size

Gathered the ruffles and sewed that elastic right on top!

Folded it right sides together and sewed up the side.

And there you have it the world's easiest ruffle skirt

She likes it too!

I also had a little fun and had her wear the ruffle top and the ruffle skirt together and it made a cute little dress!

Don't worry i do have some new projects up my sleeve which are not ruffle skirts, coming soon!

Lace Leggings

These have got to be the some of the cutest leggings I've seen, and i found them while i was on Pinterest and i couldn't stop thinking about them. There was NO way i was going to pay $19+shipping for these cute things, so you know me, i just made my own how hard can it be? I've made Hailey leggings before just not out of lace.

Here is my version

I Chose some lace with little dots on it.

Took a pair of Hailey's stretch pants lined them up on the fold of the fabric and cut, do this twice so you have two pieces. I referenced THIS tutorial,since it's been awhile since I've made pants/leggings.

When you open up the pieces they should look like this

With right sides together pin from the waistline down to the curve (as shown) and then sew. After i did that i also sewed the waistline as well, leaving an opening for the elastic.

After i did that i turned the leggings right side out and decorated the way i wanted.

Then i turned them right sides together again, pinned and sewed.

Then i inserted the elastic and once i got it all the way through i sewed the ends of the elastic together and sewed the waistline opening closed.

Cuteness? I'd say YES!

It was fun to take pictures of these because they turned out so well, and Hailey was more than willing to give me some poses because she loves to wear what i make her!

DIY Ruffle Tank Top

So this was orignally supposed to be the bottom skirt portion of a dress i was making Hailey, but then i decided not to make it. As i was looking at it wondering what i could make with it i came up with a perfect idea (for 2 different things) here is the first idea.I started by cutting off 2 layers of ruffles from the skirt below.

I had a tank top that was getting small in size for hailey so i grabbed that and put the end of the tank top and the top of the ruffles right sides together, pinned it and sewed.

And this is what i got!

Well, at the moment i don't "go" to work my work is at home as a mommy to Hailey, i'm sure i'll be back in the workforce one day but right now i get to enjoy watching this little munchkin grow up.

Lace & Pearl Headband

For some reason I have not been feeling very crafty lately, it feels like I've just run out of inspiration or something. Well i knew i had to get out of this 'craft slump' so to say. And came up with this little beauty. What do you think?

Here's how i made it. I used some lace i had on hand

And glued it around and around to make this little lace flower and then put a button in the middle to make it a little cuter.

Then i measured stretchy lace the size i needed it for my daughter's head and just hot glued the ends together.

Next i cut out some pieces of felt and glued some pearl beads onto it....yes, yes i know the shapes are not exactly the same but it didn't bother me it's in no way a "perfect" project.

After i finished that i cut out rectangle shape piece of felt and glue my bead 'creations' to the end of it.

And then glued the flower in the middle

I then took the lace headband i made and glued it down,making sure to glue the seams down so they wouldn't show.

Next i cut out another rectangle piece of felt and ~~slapped~~ glued it on top of the lace,and trimmed the corners.

There you have it!

As always there are SO many possibilities when you make headbands but this cost me $0 because i used what i had laying around.

Stuffing chocolate in her mouth....as always a great model for mommy.

When we decided to move to Washington, we agreed that we would only take with us what we could fit in our our car (a Kia Optima) and then put the rest in storage till we know a job is going to work out here. This included our washer and dryer being put in our storage unit as well. There is nothing i hate more than not having a washer and dryer! Hopefully something will work out here and i can have them back really soon!

Imagine Childrens Museum

Ever since i had Hailey i hoped that someday we could live by a big museum just for kids. Well when we moved to Washington i got Really lucky! I CAN'T rave enough about this museum i love it! We live a short probably 5 minutes from the Imagine Children's Museum and it is the most awesome hands on children's museum EVER (at least in my opinion) It's huge and Hailey is just the right age and could spend hours in there!

(These are just a few of the highlights)

The music room was pretty awesome and Hailey loved the "giant" piano you walked on to play.

I know this one looks kind of boring but it was really neat, you touched the colors on this long table for different instruments sounds.

Another room had a lot of tables set up and each table had different tops on them - she eventually got the hang of how to spin them.

Next she became a little construction worker

Had fun playing in the Tree house

We moved on and she became a vet for a few short moments

I'm not sure but i think that's a cat or a raccoon she's got there

After that we moved onto the cafe

Where she made me an interesting meal

This room was pretty awesome they had a dark room and there was this big screen that recorded your movement,since it was dark that room also had walls that had glow pens so that you could write or draw on the wall and then it would disappear (I'm not really sure how that worked but it was pretty awesome!) Hailey really enjoyed all the "glow" rooms!

Another room was the "ferry" room that had a lot of water activities

Pretty nice setup!

Well sadly i hardly touched the surface on that museum there was so much more! I couldn't take pictures of everything but i hope that if we stay around this area to get a year pass,because for us it never gets old!

Brownie Cupcakes

A couple months ago i found a recipe on Pinterest for brownie cupcakes,and instantly fell in love! I knew i needed an excuse to make them! And what better excuse is there than for a birthday treat? I ended making them a couple days early,but it was worth it they were SO good! (and in no way good for you)

There so easy to make all you need is any kind of cake mix and a brownie mix, i followed THIS recipe

Mix up the batters

Fill with brownie mix a 1/3 of the way

Happy helper....errr watcher, she did have lots of fun helping me mix the batters.

Then fill it a 1/3 with you cake batter. I cooked mine for 25-35 minutes.

What cutie right? sadly she ended up not liking the cupcakes but that's ok maybe they were a little to sweet for her.

There you got it!

I don't think they really need frosting but it was nice touch.

Apparently Washington doesn't get a lot of sun....but i guess we were lucky this weekend and had 4 straight days of it and i loved every minute of it! It even almost reached 60 yesterday!

Valentine Envelope

Yesterday I made this Valentines Day envelope for Hailey. I turned out a lot larger than i thought it was going to, but still cute!

To make it you'll need:

Felt

Velcro

sewing machine

First i cut out 2 squares 18"x13" i also cut the edges to have a scalloped look, just for fun

Then i cut out a big triangle I placed it about a half inch down and sewed it across the top of one of the squares, this will be the back of your envelope.Once you sew it, trim the sides.

Next i made the straps that would go around the chair i cut four pieces 2"wide by 20" long (this length can vary depending on your chair) I sewed 2 each pieces together and sewed Velcro to the ends.

I then pinned the straps on to the square on the backside (this is the same square i sewed the triangle too)

and tried it around the chair,after i got them where i wanted i sewed them down.

I then sewed some Velcro onto the flap

Then i took the other square, which is the front and cut out letters for Hailey's name and sewed them on.

Next take the that piece and sew it on as the front

There you got it!

When i saw today's word i instantly thought of my husband he is a GREAT cook but he doesn't have time to do it very often, which makes me sad. This was at my sisters house during thanksgiving week, and he made the most delicious Chicken Cordon Blue!

Whidbey Island

On Saturday we went with a friend to Whidbey Island. First we caught the ferry which is 10 minutes from our house i've never been on a boat before let alone a ferry so it was pretty exciting for me! Plus it was nice that we could take our car on the ferry as well so that we could drive up the island and explore.

Once we got off the ferry we drove through Langley first and stopped by the bakery.....

As good as it looks.....it wasn't that great.

On our way we also found this awesome thrift store the biggest one i've ever been in and it was 2 stories!

So much stuff

I walked through multiple times but it seemed like i never really saw "everything"

Our on way off the Island we went to Deception Pass and i have to say the view/scenery was amazing!

Pictures really don't do it justice, but that's all i got!

All in all loved visiting the island and it would be fun to go again. I wonder what next weekends adventure will be.

Ruffle Skirt Part 2

So you remember this skirt i made? If not check it out HERE

So here is part TWO it's a wrap that buttons around the skirt.....maybe to keep the skirt a little cleaner or just to make it even cuter? I'll let you decide

First i took the ruffle skirt and sewed a button the right side of the waistline

Next i made my own pattern for the wrap it looked like this,as simple as this shape looks it was alot harder than you think to make! So i suggest if you plan on making one...make it similar to this shape, and then trim as you need to make it fit your child.

I then cut out 2 of my pattern piece and sewed them right sides together leaving an opening at the top for turning it, once i turned it i ironed it and then topstiched around the whole thing (sewing closed the opening)

Next i sewed a buttonhole on the left upper corner

Then i place the skirt on the wrap and buttoned it to make sure i had it where i wanted it

Then i made 2 more buttonholes on the right side

Lined up and sewed the buttons

And there you got it!

So cute.

There is SO many possibilities for this wrap and so many different kinds of fabric you could use to make it! I know I'm still having fun experimenting!

Here's a couple more i made as you can tell - I'm probably obsessed with making them!

Fun in Seattle

What's better than going on a day trip on the drop of a dime? No planning, no stressing just going. That's what we did today. We made our first trip down to Seattle to Pike Place Market ( probably a 30 minute drive from us) to do a little sight seeing, with on of my husband's work buddies.

Let me have the pictures do the talking,i don't feel like we even scratched the surface and im sure we will be making alot more trips down there!

And not to spoil this amazingly fun day.....on our way out we stopped by the gum wall -they say it's the 2nd wall in the united states that has the most germs. YUCK! and it was very popular today.

After 5 hours of walking around ....we were tuckered out...and decided to call it quits and head home

I can't wait to go back and explore some more of Seattle!

Fun at the Library

I don't have a car most days,(which I'm used to) i'll usually just get my jogging stroller out and run wherever i want to go. Unfortunately we didn't get to bring the jogging stroller just the umbrella stroller, but that doesn't stop me an little Hailey from getting out and walking everywhere!

Today we walked down to the library, and what an awesome library we have here! We didn't even get to go through all of it, but spent a good chunk of time there. I'm sure it will end up being our 2nd home especially since it's 5 minutes away -when you walk.

First time I've seen a fish tank in a library but it sure did have some cool fish!

Aside from all the book they had some nice learning toys as well!

These things are so cool!

Sometimes i just love kids toys.....umm children's learning toys there so fun!

As you can tell this one was a hit!

Books, books, books hailey and i were in book heaven im really glad she loves Books! (we haven't been to a library in awhile!)

Basic Ruffle Skirt Part 1

Last week i looked at the fabric i had brought with me when we moved and out of my small selection these 2 caught my eye one is just white cotton and the other is this stretchy thin kind of fabric i got that i don't know the name of. Anyways first thing that come to my head is that i haven't made Hailey a skirt in awhile and this was the perfect time and this skirt couldn't be simpler to make!

I know your thinking...a white skirt is she crazy? but believe me if i knew the name of the thin white material...it washes SO well!

So i took her measurements around her waist and then measured the length that i wanted adding on an inch or two for hemming and for the waistband.Next i sewed my hem and made a casing for the elastic

For the ruffle i cute the thin stretchy material 30 inches by 4 1/2 inches

Folded it together and sewed down the long end using a basting stitch after which i gathered it till it was the length of the skirt

Once i gathered it i pinned it on the the main skirt piece and just sewed it down starting at the bottom of the skirt and working my way up.

Then you just repeat making ruffles

Until you have all this amazing ruffle-ness! Next i just measured the elastic i would need which was 19" long for my daughter and fed it through the casing i made and sewed down the ends. Next i just put the skirt right sides together and sewed the ends to finish it off.

I think she's thinking...."can we just get this picture over with already?"

How cute. I know they make "pre" ruffled fabric now, and you could make this skirt in minutes with it, but nothing beats handmade ruffles!

The Tiny Clutch

While we lived in rexburg there was a cute little fabric shop called:

Unfortunately it was going out of business, and as sad as i was to see it go, there was no complaining when the prices dropped to 60% off

And then to 90% off Now this has got to be every fabric lovers dream! lets just say i got a steal of deal on great fabric and patterns while i lived there! (sadly most of which i had to leave behind in the storage unit when we moved)

One pattern i scored is for this little beauty...The Tiny Clutch

I think it turned out amazing and is a great beginners project.

Here's what i used to make it:

I used the pattern found here which i purchased for $1

2 kinds of fabric - one for the outside,one for the lining

fusible interfacing

Velcro

Iron

Sewing Machine

The pattern pieces were very simple just 2 to cut out

I cut out 2 pieces for the outside and 2 for the lining, 2 for the strap to close it, and 2 for the handle plus i cut out the fusible interfacing one for each piece except for the outer pieces which i used 2.

I then ironed on the fusible interfacing to each piece requiring it.

After ironing i started with the strap and the handle sewing them right sides together, then turning them right sides out ironing and top stitching. At this point i also sewed on a piece of Velcro to the strap.

I then placed them where i wanted them on one side of one of the outer pieces and sewed them in place. Here i also added the other piece of the Velcro a couple inches from the top of the main fabric.

I also wanted to put my own twist on it and added some ruffles to the outside of it (because you all know how much i love ruffles!)

Next i sewed the lining of the clutch down both sides and across the bottom But i left a few inches on the bottom for turning it later.

Then i made box corners on it (the instructions were great on teaching this, though i already knew how to do it) I really love this technique because it just gives it more space to put your stuff. I followed the same instructions above to sew the outside fabric for the clutch as well as making the special corners. (one exception for the outside fabric you sew all the way across the bottom of the fabric unlike the lining fabric.)

Next i placed the out side inside the lining fabric with right sides together .

Pinned the top all the way around and then sewed it together.

After that all i had to do was pull the inside out through the opening i left on the lining fabric and then sewed that opening closed.

And there you have it!

Go ahead and strap it together

Not to bad?

Can we say cute or what? You could do this with pretty much any kind of fabric i have some laminated fabric that i think i'm going to have to try this out on!

I would say this a pretty good pattern for beginners its very simple and is a fairly quick project to make!

Getting caught up....

So we moved ....we finally made it to Washington after staying with my sister for a week(we stayed with her until our place was ready to move into)unfortunately the place we were supposed to move into didn't work out -and believe me it was a MAJOR panic moment! Thankfully the manager was more than willing to let us move into another one of his properties which is a little bigger and a bit nicer.

(little miss Hailey- i just had to post one!)

A couple things I've noticed since being here .....

We live right down the street from the Port...its so beautiful on sunny days! Plus i can get a pretty good peek of it from my spacious kitchen window.

We also live right down the road from Comcast Arena...i don't know much about it but I'm sure there's lots of fun things that go on there and i can't wait to check it out!

We've also driven past some big shopping names in the area...i won't be doing any shopping anytime soon, but it was interesting to see what was around. (I'm definitely not in rexburg anymore!)

So we're just about settled in and once i get my head together i hope to have some neat projects up and going here in the next few days, keep checking back!!

Hi everyone! I just want to let you all know im going to be taking a short break from blogging for a couple weeks because we are in the middle of moving, my husband got a new job. Unfortunatily this is our 3^rd move in 1 year so you can imagine im thrilled about it. Hopefully this will be “the” job because I don’t think I can go through this again. Even through all the stress….well it actually hasn’t been as stressful as I imagined or at least it’s not to stressful yet…? I’m so thankful that 2011 is almost over, we had so many great opportunities and wonderful things happen, but it was also a VERY stressful year, and I’m hoping that with the hubby’s new job we can have a fresh start and have things work out for us!

So don’t forget about me I WILL be back! ! Keep checking back once and awhile because once we get there I’ll hopefully be up and running again!

Christmas Candy

During our stay in Boise for thanksgiving, my Dad made this really good candy, it was so simple i just knew i would be making some when we got home!

Here's what i used:

Almond bark in chocolate and vanilla flavor - I've never used these before but I've only ever heard good things about them so i decided to give it a try and they tasted amazing!

You'll also need a candy cane

Also grab some plasic bags

And a tray, i happened to have this silicon pan with 24 squares :)

First we put the chocolates in separate bags - but we did NOT seal them

Then we took the one with chocolate in it and microwaved it for 1 minute and 30 seconds or until melted ( we also checked it at 1min.10 seconds)

Next we cut a small corner of the bag

Then we drizzled a layer just enough to cover the bottom of each square

Tapping the tray on the counter sure helped it to smooth out

Place in the freezer for only 5 minutes

It's set just enough

Then we went ahead and microwaved the white chocolate for the same amount of time as we did the chocolate one and then drizzled just enough to cover the chocolate layer

Couple taps of the tray on the counter evens it out all nice an pretty!

Crush up some candy cane

Then sprinkle it on top and place back into the freezer for another 5 minutes

After that it was time to pop em out i loved this silicon pan not a single one broke!

What a wonderful sight! Now enjoy!!

We actually ended up eating 1 and then we gave the rest as Holiday treats to our neighbors!

The BEST Slow Cooker BBQ chicken

.......And when i say the best....seriously it is the best!! I snagged this recipe off my sisters fridge...I'm not sure where she got it...but she had never tried it - so thanks Allison if you read this you really should try this recipe i stole off your fridge its AMAZING!!

I prepared this recipe in the morning so i could cook it on low, i just love having my home smell like yummy food throughout the day. So after an afternoon of errands i come home and my house smells like it was a restaurant! I was so excited...and even more happy about how it turned out and that it tasted even better than i expected!

So i know your dying to try this recipe so here's what you'll need to make the best Slow Cooker Chicken ever!

6 frozen skinless,boneless chicken breast halves

1(12 oz) bottle barbecue sauce

1/2 cup Italian salad dressing

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Directions:

1. Place chicken in slow cooker. In a bowl mix the barbecue sauce, Italian salad dressing, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the chicken.

2. Cover and cook 3-4 hours on High OR 6-8 hours on Low.

(this makes about 6 servings)

Once it was done I ended up making rice, salad and beans and then i just layered everything on top of each other and it tasted amazing! As my husband would say "I'd pay for it!"

I didn't think to an exact picture of how it turned out...but this is pretty darn close!

DIY Christmas Ornament

So a couple weeks ago i went to my first tree festival and it was pretty awesome! There was one tree in particular that i loved the most and it had a vintage theme...i don't know why but lately i just love the vintage look! As i was looking at the tree for the second time i noticed these amazing ornaments and knew that i could remake them! Aren't they pretty cool?

So here is my version of the ornament, I've tried this ornament 2 times and failed, i guess that the 3rd times the charm ;)

Here's What you'll need:

Scrape book paper

Scissors

Glue

Something to make circles with - I used the bottom of a cup

Ribbon or thread

First cut out some circles....about a million..well maybe not that many...

(sorry about the purple-ish color of some of these photos im not sure why they turned out that way)

Also cut out one the same size out of paper and draw a triangle on it.

Fold up the sides of the circle on the lines you just made for the triangle as pictured

This is going to be what you'll use to fold up the edges of all the circles.

So after you do that to the circles...i just did about 20 to start with...you shouldn't need much more than that.

Next go ahead and glue 2 sides together

And continue to keep gluing here is mine a little over halfway through

Glue and glue and glue till you get to the point where you just have one more left to place, this is when you'll glue a piece of ribbon or thread on the inside flap for hanging it.

Go ahead and glue the last piece and wa-la! so pretty! I love using paper that has glitter or sparkles it just looks so much nicer, plus you don't have to decorate it!

Mesh Christmas Tree

So while i was at my sisters house during Thanksgiving we did so much fun stuff! Here is one of the crafts i got to help her with! Isn't this tree a cutie? And it's the perfect size for the middle of her kitchen table - on the lazy Susan....i LOVE lazy Susan's especially on kitchen tables ;)

So would you like to make one? Here's how we made hers!

These are the only 3 things you'll need (and decorations...if you want)

The Mesh Ribbon we used was 2 1/2" wide, if you've never used mesh ribbon, don't be afraid you can't mess up while using it -it's very forgiving!

And Greening Pins.

What we did was so simple we unrolled the mesh ribbon a little at a time and then twisted it....

Here's a closer look at the twist..kind of looks like a ringlet...haha

After twisting just pin it with the greening pin, keep twisting and pining all the way around and work your way up...

Make sure to start out wider at the bottom and get more narrow as you reach the top.

And in the end you'll have the cutest little tree ever! I just love little Christmas trees!

Then go ahead and get to decorating the most fun part right?

And ta-da! Look how awesome that turned out!

Right now I'm wishing this was my kitchen table!

Christmas Countdown Craft!!

Wow, what a busy week it has been! We went down to Boise to spend time with the Family for Thanksgiving and it was so much fun! Hailey had blast spending time with all her Aunts,Uncles and Grandparents, it was a much needed little vacation for our family!

Really quick i wanted to share one little idea - something my sister gave me and I'm just LOVING it!

Check out this AWESOME Holiday countdown! I actually didn't make it but it would be so simple to make!

This is the one she had displayed.....HOW CUTE is that?!

Like i mentioned these would be really easy to make, just get mini muffin tin make sure it has 24 spots or you could do one with 12

Cut out 24 squares out of scrapbook paper and decorated every one the way you want, these will go over every spot and then simply glue a magnet to the back!

Fill it with whatever you want! Candy or even a nativity scene would be awesome!

And then the magnet sticks to the pan!

I absolutely LOVE this idea!!

To store the pieces I'm using a little tin.

I love that this is something my daughter can use, and i know it will be used year after year!

This definitely has made me excited for the Holidays!

When i first got started with Pinterest these popsicle stick snowflakes really caught my eye and was one of the first projects i pinned. I haven't been able to get it out of my head since!

So i finally got this project out of my system yesterday. And i LOVE how they turned out! The tutorial for these was very easy to follow.

They were super simple,quick to make and i won't lie i had lots fun making them!

This one i painted with glue and sprinkled with glitter - LOVE it!

My husband was actually impressed with this project! This one's going in the front window for sure!

Have you ever heard of an Obol?

I never had but recently discovered Obol and was so amazed why didn’t I know about this amazing bowl sooner!! I contacted Obol and they said they would send me one to review and also would do a giveaway! I seriously waited and waited to get the obol I was so excited for it to come! When it did come as silly as it sounds it was like “Christmas day” I was so excited! This is the PERFECT solution for my husband and daughter who won’t eat cereal because it gets soggy - well Problem solved! Whoever came up with this bowl…..in my mind is a pure genius!

The absolute best part of the bowl is that it gives you the ability to walk away from it and then come back to cereal that is not soggy……I’ve had a lot of times where I’m eating breakfast and all of a sudden my daughter needs me and I have to stop in the middle of eating, or I’ll have somebody call me and I’ll be on the phone for 15 minutes …I love that when I come back my cereal is separated from my milk, there is no more wasting cereal in my house!

This bowl not only can be used for cereal but you can use it for so many other foods, such as soup and crackers, chips and dip yogurt and fruit or even milk and cookies! The price is definitely not bad for what you’re getting; this bowl is larger than a normal sized bowl which I love!

Brookstone. sells this bowl in some amazing bright colors – red,orange,green,blue and then the standard white.

Overall I loved this bowl for so many reason but here's a few to sum things up!

1) It has such a handy underside for holding the bowl while your sitting

2) Allows you to get distracted while your eating

5) And it can be used for more than just cereal!

3D Heart Art!

Hi! I hope everyone had a fun weekend, we kept busy even though it was cold and snowy for part of the time, which equaled drinking lots of hot chocolate! I feel like this month has flown by is thanksgiving really next week?! I’m not ready!!

So I’ve been wanting to do this project for awhile because I absolutely love 3D art! So I was so excited to start and actually finish this project in one day!!

So here is my version of 3D heat art!

Supplies You Will Need

Frames - I just bought mine from the dollar store

Fabric - I used 8 different colors of fabric, but you could do this with just 4 colors or even 1 depending on how many you want to make.

Glue any kind OR you can use modge podge

Hot glue gun

Scissors

Sewing machine

Flat push pins(optional if your frame already has a way to be hanged)

Paper

I bought these frames earlier this summer and spray painted them white.

Pick out 8 different fabrics or you can just do 4 if you want the hearts to be just one color.

Next cut out 3 hearts one big, one medium size and one small

Next I cut out a big square and a small square to fit the big and small hearts on out of my main fabric (the polka dot) I did this for each color

Then I cut one medium square out of each of my solid colors using the medium heart shape I cut earlier

Then go ahead using your glue (or modge podge) paint the right side of all your fabric squares.

Let it dry, it may start to curl so I just put them between some books

I also cut out a piece of cardboard to fit on the back of the frame as the background and then I hot glued fabric to it – it’s ok if the back isn’t pretty nobody’s going to see it!

Then place the cardboard on the back of the frame.

I also had some flat push pins and glued one on the back of each frame as well because there wasn’t anything to hang it with. (but this is optional if your frame has something to hang it on the wall)

Once the fabric was dry I cut out my large and small hearts on the polka dot fabric and then my medium hearts on the solid fabric

Go ahead and fold all you hearts in half and then place the medium heart on top of the large heart matching up the perforated lines SEW straight down that line.

then place your smallest heart on top lining up the middle lines.I then repeated this for the other colored hearts.

Then go ahead and turn your heart over using your hot glue gun glue just down the middle and then place onto the middle of your frame.

And then i just repeated the sewing and gluing for the other 3

Best Play Dough Ever!

We’ve had a shortage of play dough in our house lately-which Is a bad thing according to a 2 year old! It’s one of her favorite things to do….. and one thing I know is that I’m so tired of buying play dough! So today when Hailey asked me for the hundredth time to play with play dough…and we had none…I thought now was the perfect time to make some!

These instructions are for THE BEST play dough ever!! I love how smooth it feels and I don’t think I’ll ever buy play dough EVER again! It’s also really quick to make so I made a few different colors.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 cup water

1 cup flour

1/4 cup salt

1 tbsp vegetable oil

2 tsp. cream of tarter

Food coloring (I usually put 4-6 drops depending how dark I wanted the color

Combine all the ingredients together in a pot.

Turn the stove on to medium heat and continuously stir until everything sticks together into one ball

Then place onto wax paper or you can just use your counter top

Let it cool a couple minutes and then knead it until smooth.

Then if you want more repeat…I ended up making 4 colors and then I got tired of making it. Another idea is you could put glitter in it to give it a little sparkle, if i had glitter at the time i would definitely have done that!

Keep it in a sealed container (I just used sandwich Ziploc bags) and if it becomes a little dry after time put it in a bowl and knead a little water into it.

Then let the kiddo or kiddos have fun!

So much fun!

The cookie cutters were her favorite thing to use.

I eventually got out the 'rockin roll' aka the rolling pin for her to use as well and she loved that!

Amazing Cinnamon Roll Cake!

A few days ago I was online and found the recipe for Cinnamon roll cake on this website and when I saw It I knew instantly that I had to make it! Now If you know me i don't have a good record of cooking or baking…just ask my husband! I've burned ALOT when it comes to cooking/baking. But that being said I knew I had to take the chance!

And I'm so glad I did because I had a stroke of good luck, and this cinnamon roll cake turned out DELICIOUS! (and tasted just like a cinnamon roll)

So Here’s the recipe – I actually ended up making only half a recipe which I’m glad I did because there was plenty!

(Below is the full recipe.)

Cake:

3 c. flour
1/4 tsp.salt
1 c. sugar

4 tsp. baking powder

1 1/2 c. milk

2 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla

1/2 c. butter, melted

Mix everything together except the melted butter, mix this in last.

Then pour into a greased 9x13 pan. (I only made half this recipe so I put mine into a smaller pan)

Topping:

1 c. butter, softened

1 c. brown sugar

2 Tbsp. flour

1 Tbsp. cinnamon

For the topping mix all the ingredients together until smooth

and then place it evenly on top of the batter

and then swirl with a knife Then bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.

Glaze:

2 c. powdered sugar
5 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine the ingredients for the glaze and drizzle over the cake while warm.

The Ruffled Collared Cape

About a week ago I was chosen to test a pattern for Jenny at http://seaminglysmitten.blogspot.com/ for a child's ruffled collared cape.

I’ve never tested a pattern before so I was over the moon excited to give it a try! The pattern was simple to make,the instructions clear as a whistle, it didn’t take very long and look how it turned out - Amazing!!

The Green Tea Skirt

Did you all have a great Halloween? This little princess sure did! This year she was actually able to understand Halloween and how to trick or treat a little better than last year, and caught on really quick! She wasn’t really able to say trick or treat, but “treat please” seemed to get her what she wanted! Today she was asking to “go again”, gotta love toddlers, but not till next year honey bunches!

Is this picture blurry? I think not this just shows how fast she was running on her little legs to get to all the houses!

So over the weekend I found the tutorial for This skirt and instantly knew I had to make it! It actually was really simple (except for making the sash waaaay to long, but that can fixed)

I love how it turned out!

DIY Storage Box

This is feeling like a trash to treasure day, but only because I’ve seem to keep finding empty boxes around my house, and I'm not sure where there coming from……..but what’s better than turning an empty box into something cute?

Here’s what I made and here’s the how to….

What you’ll need:

An empty box doesn’t matter what size

glue gun

sewing machine

scissors

2 fabrics one for the outside and one for the liner

First cut the sides of your box on the corners - this will be your pattern

Then take the fabric that your going to use for the outside and trace around the box, I added and extra ½” on each side for my seam allowance, then cut it out.

Next cut out the fabric your using for the liner,I used the piece of fabric I just cut out as a guide, and also added on an extra inch on each side.

I hope this next part is not to confusing to understand...it's easy..just not easy to explain!

So your going to go ahead an sew the sides of your fabric, right sides together, pinning 1/2” from the edge. Once you’ve sewn all the sides you have a fabric cover(it looks kind of like a limp fabric box) that fits nicely around your cardboard box.

( I sewed the liner fabric pinning the same way I did the outer fabric except sewing with a ¼” seam allowance,because you want it to fit loosely inside the box.)

I'm not sure if this is helpful but i put different colored lines, on each corner to show where you'll be sewing right sides together.

Then you will take the lining piece of fabric and we are going to make a casing for the elastic,(the elastic will help hold it around the box) so go ahead and iron down ¼” from the top all the way around then fold it over again ½” and iron. After ironing Pin and then sew leaving an opening for the elastic.

Once I finished sewing I fed my elastic (through the opening I left) with a safety pin I ended up using 46” of elastic, but it will vary depending on how big your box is.

After you go all the way through with your elastic, zig-zag the ends of the elastic and trim them if needed and sew close the opening.

Next go ahead and tape up the sides of your box –to make it a box again, I also trimmed the cover of the box (I had originally cut it off) and placed it on the bottom of the box to make it a little sturdier ;)

Go ahead and place the cover you sewed around the outside of the box and then fire up the glue gun. Your going to take the top (raw edge) of the fabric folding it over onto the inside of the box and gluing it down as you go. make sure to pull kind of tight but make sure it’s even on all side.

After gluing it should look like this.

Place liner inside box.

I also made a quick fabric flower for the front of the box, just to dress it up a bit but its optional

And your done!

Ribbon rose

Here is probably the quickest most easy ribbon rose you'll ever make! Alot of people make fabric roses, but i like to use ribbon because it gives the rose a really neat clean look, there is pretty much no fray except on the ends of the ribbon which won't show at all.

Here is what you'll need!

Supplies:

Hot glue gun

Felt

Ribbon (i used 7/8 inch)

Scissors

First cut a circle out of your felt however big you want the flower to be,then knot the end of your ribbon.

Glue the knot to the middle of your circle.

Start twisting your ribbon

glue around your knot and then place the twisted ribbon where you glued.

Continue twisting and gluing until you go all the way around and the felt is not showing - and your done!

If you want you can glue a clip to the back or make it a headband....there's so many options!!

Then have fun putting putting together different looks!

I usually like to add pearls, feathers or buttons to make it look a little different

This one is going to be a headband!

Tutorial: Make your own Bias Tape!

What a short weekend filled with many things to do, but even with how busy it gets i always seem to be able to squeeze in a little time for sewing, i also made time to go through my fabric stash and organize (who knows how long that reorganization will last) anyways while i was going through my fabric stash i found alot of fabrics i forgot about.......and below is what i whipped up real quick from some "forgotten fabric" not bad? ...i think I'll need to add some ruffles somewhere....what do you think?

I don't know what it is but i just LOVE making clothes for my daughter!

Also while looking through the stash i came across a lot of this fabric

and the first thing that popped into my head was that i needed to make some bias tape! If you've never made bias tape before it is super easy -and in my opinion can save alot of money!

So here we go.... my version of how to make bias tape here's what you'll need.

Supplies:

A rectangle piece of fabric

Thread

Scissors

Ruler

Pins

First lay your fabric out

Then fold one corner of the fabric up creating a triangle

Cut the triangle and place it on the opposite end.

Place the fabric right sides together and sew to create a trapezoid shape

It should look like this - if you want you could just cut a trapezoid shape out of fabric but i think this method is easier with less cleanup :)

Next you will need to decide how thick you want your tape to be in the end, and then multiply it by 4 and this will help determine how wide your strips will be. I wanted to have it 1/2 inch in the end,so i made my strips 2 inches wide.

2 hours later.....no not really....but here is all the strips cut nice an pretty

When sewing the strips place right sides together,and then sew across where the 2 fabrics meet.

Next unfold the strip,iron the seam and trim the excess threads and fabric, and then repeat until you have one long strip.

Next you will iron it in half to make a middle line unfold then fold up the edges to that line and iron again.Then you'll re-fold it again at the center line and iron - this makes your bias tape 4 layers thick.

I love homemade bias tape! And i know i will be making alot more in the future!
