Rag Quilt

Wow, it has been awhile since i've blogged, March wasn't a very good month for me i only posted 1 time! Well here's to hoping that I'll get back into the swing of things and keep up with this blog a little better than before. Today i just wanted to share the quilt i just made for my daughter, I'm not very good when it comes to making quilts, i love to make puff quilts, but besides that i don't quilt. Until...i noticed my daughter dragging around her blanket (pretending it was a "princess" dress another post on that later) it was one of the first blankets i ever sewed and now it looked so small....so knew that i needed to make her a new one.

This is what i made, my first rag quilt.

So i chose a few different fabrics, 3 were flannel and 3 soft textured fabrics. I cut out my fabric squares 7"x7"

Also don't forget batting - i cut those 6"x6"

This fabric i used for all the backs of the top squares - white with green and pink dots,these i also cut out 7"x7"

After i cut out all the squares i wanted i played around with what design i wanted, so many different ways to chose from.

Next i started sewing, i placed one square of the fabric i chose for the back right side down, then i placed a piece of batting on top of that and then one of my top squares on top of that. Then i just sewed an X across it, but leaving a 1/2" on each side of the square, so your basically just sewing down the batting.

Then i laid out my squares again

I then placed 2 of my squares right sides together and sewed straight down,using a 1/2" seam,when you open it, it will look like the picture below.

I had all the squares layed out and then would just take them by row and sew the squares together.

After i sewed the squares into rows, i sewed the rows together once again right sides together using a 1/2" seam. Once i sewed all the rows, i sewed a straight stitch all the way around using again a 1/2" seam. After doing that, i cut all the loose threads and clipped all the seams.......it took a looooooooooong time to clip those seams but it was so worth it!

Because here is what i got in the end! 

If you want to make it more fluffy you can wash it and that will do the trick!

She sure is one lucky little lady!
